pregnantAmericans are being exposed every day to a range of chemicals in the environment, right from mercury to pesticides, that pose a serious risk to reproductive health, said the country’s biggest groups of obstetricians and fertility specialists on Monday.

Strict Environmental Policies- The Need of the Hour

The report urges doctors to press for stringent environmental policies that could better identify and reduce the amount of chemicals that are truly risky.

However, alarm bells need not ring immediately for those planning for a pregnancy. This is because the American College of Obstetrician and Gynecologists has charted out a plan to protect women from the dangers of these chemicals.

It now wants doctors to ask mother-to-be about what chemicals they might be exposed to during the course of their daily lives. The association also wants doctors to teach women how to avoid some of those chemicals considered hazardous during pregnancy.
